Why do different cultures calculate age differently?
In Western tradition, age increases on each birthday. In East Asian (particularly Korean and Chinese) tradition, a person is considered 1 year old at birth, and everyone becomes a year older on New Year's Day — not their birthday. South Korea officially switched to the Western system in 2023. Some cultures use lunar calendars, making birthday conversion complex.
What is a person's "half-life" or chronological midpoint?
If the average global life expectancy is ~72 years, the statistical midpoint of a life is around 36 years. However, perceived time is logarithmic — a year feels shorter as you age because it represents a smaller fraction of your total lived experience. At 10, a year is 10% of your life; at 50, it's 2%.
How do you calculate age accurately across leap years?
Accurate age calculation must account for leap years (every 4 years, except centuries unless divisible by 400). This tool accounts for all leap years in its calculations. February 29 birthdays are typically celebrated on February 28 or March 1 in non-leap years.

Forgetting that the "Age 0" year is still a full year
People often think age 1 = first birthday, but you spend your entire first year of life as "age 0." This affects calculations when someone says "they're in their X0s."
